Tips for Shipping Items

Use Good Packaging

Use strong packaging that is slightly larger than the item being shipped. Fill this with foam, shipping bubbles, or other type of packing material so that the item is snug and won't bang around during shipping.

It's considered bad form to ship something in its original packaging, so don't just send the game jewel case wrapped in some paper, or a DVD case in an office envelope. At the very least use a bubble insulated envelope. You can find some shipping supplies at Home Office supply stores like Office Depot, Staples/Business Depot, or at your local post office.

Using the local Post Office is a cost effective way of shipping items. USPS and Canada Post offer very reasonable rates, especially for small items like games, books, or movies. Just make sure you provide good packaging since sometimes these public Postal services are considered to handle their parcels a little more roughly than professional services like Fedex or UPS.

Properly Label the Package

Include the full name, and address of the recipient on the package. Include your own return address information so that the recipient knows who's it from, and so that the post office or courier can return it to you if they can't complete delivery.

Include a note for clarity

Sometimes people might receive something and forget what trader they were dealing with. If you include your NXC user name it might help them to remember to give you trade feedback :).

Use Tracking Numbers, and Signatures

Depending on the shipping service you use, you might have the option to get a tracking number or to request a "Recipient Signature". These options tend to cost a few dollars more, but if you are trading somewhat pricier items these options are a good safeguard.

Even when using the USPS or CanadaPost you can ask for rudimentary package tracking and/or signatures.

The NXC trading system includes a field in the Pending Trade part of your trade interface. Put your tracking number there for the other trader to use as a reference, and also as your own place of reference in case of a dispute.
